It is my honor to appreciate European Parliament for recognizing human rights violations related to Kement in its resolution on Ethiopia (2016/2520(RSP). Actually, it was not ethnic unrest between Amhara and Kemant, but the reality was genocide war against the Kemant people by the regional government. For a clear pronounced intention to destroy Kemants in the area, the Region-3 Government, better known as Amhara Regional State fielded 10, 000 paratroops and militia in December 2015.
Causality, especially property destruction was an unacceptable level. More than 81 Kemants, women, children and elders were killed; 39 Kemants were wounded, unknown number of people were taken into detention, approximately 25,000 people were displaced and suffering from hunger and diseases currently. Perpetrators also demolished or burned in fire 986 residencies, emptying the enter villages in some localities; destroyed or taken away 42,284 quintals of grain, seized more than 18, 700 domestic animals.
As the government’s objective to destroy Kemants was failed at least for now and causality from the government side was extremely high, government and its supporter media started disseminating confusing information, both parties portrayed conflict as if ethnic hostility between Amharas and Kemants . Since Amharic and related media was echoing the government position, the international community had no opportunity to learn facts.
I wish European Parliament to send its delegate into the area for an inquiry and verification of this report. I will be happy to give contacts for the same purposes.
For now, I have attached with this comment a detail report including list of identities of victims, list of robbed and destroyed property, list of key suspected government officials in genocide.
