Oromo Student Protest

Since the end of April, the Oromo students protest is ongoing. A report coming from the region indicates the student from Ambo Univrsity, Wellaga University, Haramaya University and lately Adama University students took part demonstration.

The demonstrators about more than 20-demonstrators reportedly killed in clash with security, more than 70 students wounded and many of them taken to custody. There different scenarios for the cause of unrest, but the most important one is reportedly, Addis Ababa City’s new master plan, which incorporates some surrounding urban of Oromia Region.

However, the demonstrator’s demand includes: Promotion of Afaan Oromo to national working language, removal of Nafitegna symbols, and fair representation via a legitimate body. Oromo is make up about 50% of the Ethiopian population.
