VOA Public Relations Department
330 Independence Avenue

Dear Sir or Madam:
I would like to request the VOA Public Relations Department a simple question. Kindly, what is your criterion for making a news story on event(s)? Two days ago there was a half million men and women march in Ethiopia, Gondar City. Unfortunately, the VOA and its associates, Amharic Service, Afaan Oromo Service, Tigregna Service, Somali Service and government controlled domestic media failed to give any coverage about the event. I wonder if you can clarify to me the VOA’s criterion for the coverage of an event.
For your information Sunday’s half million march was made by Kemant people, one of Agaw groups and the most oppressed people in Ethiopia to date. The Kemant people have been struggling for the last nine years to gain their political & cultural rights including establishment of self-government in their area. Indeed, Kemant’s non-violent resistance should have been given serious attention if VOA were genuine for democratization of Africa, Ethiopia in particular.
It is difficult to believe that VOA is ignorant about Sunday’s event and human rights violations in the region for the past nine years. I wish to see VOA’s reputation intact, and look forward to hearing from you.
