Need Help: Point-to-Point Frame-Relay Not Mapping

I have got used cisco router 2621. I wanted to set up it for frame-relay services. Before doing so, I ran simulation over spoke and hub topology with three cisco 2621 routers. I completed configuration on simulation and tested, but it failed to ping any of the system. When I did troubleshoot, I found out that it was not mapping. The output in response to show frame-relay map command is as follows:

R2#show frame-relay map

Serial1/0.300 (up): point-to-point dlci, dlci 300, broadcast, status defined, active

Serial1/0.400 (up): point-to-point dlci, dlci 400, broadcast, status defined, active

R2#

The command show
interface conveys the output, as illustrated below:

R2#show interface

FastEthernet0/0 is administratively down, line protocol is down (disabled)

Hardware is Lance, address is 0060.7074.7001 (bia 0060.7074.7001)

MTU 1500 bytes, BW 100000 Kbit, DLY 100 usec,

reliability 255/255, txload 1/255, rxload 1/255

Encapsulation ARPA, loopback not set

ARP type: ARPA, ARP Timeout 04:00:00,

Last input 00:00:08, output 00:00:05, output hang never

Last clearing of “show interface” counters never

Input queue: 0/75/0 (size/max/drops); Total output drops: 0

Queueing strategy: fifo

Output queue :0/40 (size/max)

5 minute input rate 0 bits/sec, 0 packets/sec

5 minute output rate 0 bits/sec, 0 packets/sec

0 packets input, 0 bytes, 0 no buffer

Received 0 broadcasts, 0 runts, 0 giants, 0 throttles

0 input errors, 0 CRC, 0 frame, 0 overrun, 0 ignored, 0 abort

0 input packets with dribble condition detected

0 packets output, 0 bytes, 0 underruns

0 output errors, 0 collisions, 2 interface resets

0 babbles, 0 late collision, 0 deferred

0 lost carrier, 0 no carrier

0 output buffer failures, 0 output buffers swapped out

The issuance of command show ip route, it indicated no route other than directly connected network. Obviously, dynamic mapping is not working as it can be seen below:

Gateway of last resort is not set

192.168.1.0/30 is subnetted, 2 subnets

C 192.168.1.0 is directly connected, Serial1/0.300

C 192.168.1.4 is directly connected, Serial1/0.400

R2#

When I tried to map manually, I encountered with the following error:

Only frame-relay interface-dlci command should be used on point-to-point interfaces not frame-relay map

What can I do to tackle this problem. I need help, thanks for your support.

One Response to Need Help: Point-to-Point Frame-Relay Not Mapping

  1. D. Dias says:

I guess you need to check:
    1. The IOS version you are using whether it supports frame-relay
    2. If the IOS is supporting you may have to make clean configuration in case if you mistakenly made static configuration before you run dynamic configuration. From my experience, once static configuration is enabled, it automatically disables the dynamic one
    3. Besides that, you need to check from any of tech forum for solutions suggested to similar problems
